Shoaib Akhtar Birthday: Awarded the world’s fastest bowler, Warne was more dangerous than Murali-McGrath

New Delhi. Shoaib Akhtar was born on 13 August 1975 in Rawalpindi, Pakistan. His childhood was spent in extreme poverty. Akhtar lived in a one-room house with his entire family and his father was a night man. Akhtar made his Test debut at the age of 22 against West Indies in 1997. He troubled the best batsmen in the world with his pace and lethal bowling. Akhtar, who excelled in bowling, was also in controversy many times due to his antics on the field.

 

Shoaib Akhtar holds the record for bowling the fastest ball in the history of cricket. He bowled a speed of 161.3 kmph against England in the year 2003. This ball was faced by England opener Nick Knight. This fast bowler, who played 46 Tests, has taken 178 wickets. In Test cricket, he has taken 5 wickets on 12 occasions and 10 wickets on 4 occasions. Akhtar has taken 247 wickets in 163 ODIs and 19 wickets in 15 T20 matches.

 

Akhtar admitted in an interview with Simi Grewal in 2005 that he used to abuse on the field. South African player Paul Adams had accused Akhtar of abusing him. Akhtar’s image was that of a bad cricketer who was also accused of ball tampering, beating his fellow players. Due to this, they were banned and huge fines were imposed. Not only this, in the year 2003, he even had a fight with senior bowler Waqar Younis in the World Cup, due to which he was dropped from the team.
